OK, so now for the bit you’ve been waiting for. In fact doing it several times with some variation makes it all the more effective. It can be a completely impromptu trick and can be done back to back with either the same, more, less or different coins and with different people. It may seem quite straight forward, it really is, but very visual and effective. The magician, with complete certainty is able to reveal if the hidden coin is showing heads, or tails. Before the magician returns, one of the coins is covered, either by someone’s hand or a playing card. Whilst the magician turns his back, or even leaves the room, the spectator is asked to turn coins over two at a time, as many times as they wish. I often add deliberate mistakes into routines to make it seem like I’m really doing something, or as part of my layers of misdirection.Ī spectator is asked to put some coin change from his pocket/wallet onto the table. It looks more real if it’s not all perfect. Sometimes, there is nothing you can do about it. As you learn more you will find ways of covering that up (called ‘outs’). You can repeat it time and again to the same people.įinally before we get started, if it goes wrong, don’t panic, it does happen. Some tricks are for one off use only, by this I mean you do not repeat it to the same audience, at least not in the same way. If someone tries to guess how it is done, do not give anything away, even if they guess correctly. Remember, if one of your audience asks you a direct question, you do not have to answer, or if you do, it doesn’t have to be direct. There is nothing to hide with this trick, so misdirection is not required, although I like to add some in to keep people guessing. If you can do this it will become authentic and you will have your audience captivated. You should use it as a base and build layers on it, really think about how you could develop the performance. I will explain the effect in a moment with very simple wording and routine example. Try and get a realistic back story you can tell whilst performing the trick. Practice until you don’t even have to think about what you are doing or saying. A simple trick performed well is better than a complicated, expensive trick poorly performed. Just because it seems simple, don’t be fooled, you should take time to understand how it works and to practice both the method and your choreography.Ĭhoreography is key to all magic tricks and effects. Today, I’m going to share with you one of these tricks, it’s straight forward yet very effective. The absolute best would be tricks that don’t need setting up, use everyday items and you don’t even have to touch them yourself to make them work. The best ones are those that need no prior preparations, and even better are those that use everyday objects. Everyone should know at least a few self working tricks, even professional magicians.
